Thinking about generations, conjuncturally: A toolkit

Since the early twentieth century, generation has been a recurrent concept in social analysis. In spite of successive bouts critique and periods relative neglect, category never abandoned. this article, drawing inspiration from broad range thinkers – such as José Ortega y Gasset, Karl Mannheim, Antonio Gramsci, Pierre Bourdieu, Raymond Williams Stuart Hall we review fine tune our conceptual toolkit regarding generations, making more explicitly visible its affordances for analysis times crisis. We focus on problem intergenerational overlap contemporaneity contradictions that emerge it. argue notion coevalness can help us resolve some these example, lag between generational awareness introduce, through horizontal connotations, decolonising ethical stance. Favouring processual understanding generation, recommend ‘conjunctural analysis’ most flexible analytical framework resolving intersectional overlaps categorisation.
